Portland Opera mezzo soprano Angela Niederloh will be performing songs by composer Gideon Klein, and others by the camp's talented amateurs. She'll also sing Viktor Ullmann's Brezulinka, a set of Yiddish songs.
The program includes the chamber music of Hans Krása and Erwin Schulhoff. Schulhoff was an audaciously original voice whose fascinating career was brought to an abrupt end in a Bavarian slave labor camp. In his String Quartet No. 1, you'll hear the influence of Slavonic folksong and the dance music of the day.
