Back from Berlin [USA]
December 09 2012
Jewish Music and Poetry Project of Berkeley, CA.
Fresh from their success in Berlin, the Jewish Music & Poetry Project (soprano Nanette McGuinness, cellist Adaiha MacAdam-Somer, and pianist Dale Tsang-Hall) are at the Berkeley Arts Festival performing new music with texts by Jewish women poets or women composers, as well as forbidden music—music by composers banned—or worse—by the Nazis in the ‘30s and ‘40s.
The program will include music by the fabulous & cool Bay Area composer David Garner to texts by women poets, along with songs to poems by Rose Auslaender, by Edwin Geist (1902-42), Vitezslawa Kapralova (1915-1940), Pavel Haas (1899-1944), and Alexander Zemlinsky(1871-1942), and piano music by Erich Korngold.
