Katya Grineva First Asia-Pacific Concert Tour 2010—Rediscovering the ‘lost’ works of Marcel Tyberg

10 20, 2009

New York City—Moscow-born Russian pianist, Katya Grineva, now living in New York, will embark on her first Asia/Pacific concert tour in May 2010. Grineva will be premiering in Melbourne, Sydney, Hong Kong and Singapore a selection of music from the rediscovered piano sonatas of Marcel Tyberg, a Viennese composer who died in World War II, and whose musical scores were thought to have vanished with his death in the holocaust.

In 2006, Katya Grineva was chosen by the current owner of the musical scores, Dr. Enrico Mihich, to exclusively perform and record the New York premieres of Marcel Tyberg's Piano Sonata No. 1 and No. 2, 60 years after the musical scores were presumed lost.

Dr. Enrico Mihich is the son of Dr. Milan Mihich to whom Tyberg had passed his handwritten and unpublished musical scores, before being taken away by the Germans. It will be the first time for Asian audiences to hear in concert, a selection of Tyberg's piano music, along with Grineva's interpretations of music by Schubert, Liszt, Satie, Bloch, Chopin, Granados, Piazolla and Ravel.

As the only female solo pianist to grace New York's Carnegie Hall Isaac Stern Auditorium eleven times, Grineva's musical style has been hailed as 'lyrical, exquisitely refined' (The Buffalo News). Her playing has been described as 'liquid, dreamlike' (The New York Times).

Grineva, has been a soloist with the Guayaquil Symphonic Orchestra in Lincoln Center Avery Fisher Hall. Her recitals have captivated audiences at the Laurier Society in Paris as well as in one of the city's prestigious concert halls, the Salle Gaveau. Five CDs of her work are available including her latest “Katya - Love and Fire: The Dances”.

Grineva's musicianship was recognized in 1998 when Steinway and Sons awarded her the honorable title of Steinway Artist. Her other awards include a special award form the New York State Shields in 2005, an award for special achievement from the government of Guam, recipient of the Gusi Peace Prize from Philippine President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo in 2006, and Outstanding Women award from Ercolano Italy in 2008.
