Danel Quartet will perform the Complete Cycle of Weinberg Quartets in November 2009

We have received news from our friend Claude Torres in regard to the performance of the complete cycle of Weinberg Quartets by Danel Quartet during their November session in Manchester.
According to Claude Torres, “Like Shostakovich's fifteen string quartets, the seventeen by his Polish-born friend, colleague and confidant, Mieczyslaw Weinberg – by turns passionate, exciting, mysterious, anguished and exploratory, and consistently inspiring—constitute a secret diary of the Soviet intelligentsia. The Danels have performed all the quartets in Manchester over the past four years. Now they offer a historic first-ever survey of the complete cycle, in seven concerts at the Martin Harris Centre.”

November 19th, 14.30, Seminar on the string quartets of Weinberg, led by Professor David Fanning and an international panel of experts
November 19th, 19.30, Quartets Nos. 7, 8 and 9
November 20th, 13.10, Quartets Nos. 10 and 11
November 20th, 19.30, Quartets Nos. 12, 13 and 14
November 21st, 11.00, Quartets Nos. 15, 16 and 17, followed by a public choice for a second hearing of one quartet from the cycle.
